Regular school attendance has a positive impact on a child's academic development. The total amount of days that school is in session is prescribed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Vacations are strongly discouraged while school is in session.
Absences:
A student who has been absent from school, even for one day, is required to present a written note to his homeroom teacher.
A doctor's certificate may be required for any absences longer than three days.
If your child is going to be absent or arrive late to school, you are required to call the school by 8:30 a.m. The numnber to call is 610-932-3633. If your child's name appears on an attendance report from the homeroom teacher and you have not phoned in to let the school know, please expect a call from the school to verify the absence or check on the child's whereabouts. Your child's safety and welfare are of great importance to us.
In the case of illness at school, a school official will contact the parent/guardian whose name has been submitted to the office with an emergency phone number.
Any child who stays at home without his/her parent's knowledge is liable to suspension. Any child who leaves school without permission is liable to suspension.
In order to arrange for assignments of children who are absent due to illness, please call the school office by 8:30 a.m. This work can then be picked up by 2:30 p.m. at the school office. It is the responsibility of the student to complete work and tests that have been missed due to absence.
General Supervision:
The school grounds are generally supervised during school hours. There also is general supervision in connection with school sponsored activities, such as extra-curricular events. Parents are responsible for insuring that they and their children are not on the premises during other times. The school has no responsibility for students or parents on the premises during unsupervised times.
Arrivals:
Car riders may be dropped off in the circle at the far end of school no earlier than 7:50 a.m. School buses will drop off the students in the front of school and they will enter through the front door.
Daily Schedule:
Monday - Thursday: Students proceed to the gym and await morning
prayers and announcements
Friday: Students will proceed straight to their homerooms
in preparation for Friday liturgy
8:15 a.m. - morning prayers and announcements
8:30 a.m. - classes begin
11:00 a.m. - dismissal of half day PreK through the front doors of school
2:50 p.m. - closing prayers and announcements
Early Dismissal:
No child will be excused early except in cases of emergency. Please do not call early for your child just to avoid waiting in the car line. This causes confusion at a very busy time of the day. To request an early dismissal, a note needs to be sent in to the office. The student will be dismissed from the school office. The parent will have to come into school and sign the child out before they can be released.
Emergency Closing:
The school requires the parent/guardian of each student to complete an emergency contact form provided by the school. It is important that the information on this form is accurate and updated so that the school can contact the parent/guardian in the event of an emergency.
Weather Related Information:
Our school depends on the buses from the various public school districts in which our students live. Since the overwhelming majority of our students reside in the Oxford School District, our school closings/late openings/early dismissals are done in conjunction with Oxford schools. If the Oxford School District is open late or is closed because of weather, we must do the same. As soon as we receive notification that the Oxford Area School District is closed, we immediately call WGAL Channel 8 and WPVI Channel 6 and give the information for Sacred Heart School. It also is posted on our website. You will also receive a text, voicemail, or email from the school notifying you of what is happening. Please check the following in order to determine the information about school delays and closings:
